First-year in-state applicants to TCNJ are automatically considered for merit scholarships upon submission of their application. These awards are based on a student’s overall high school academic record (including the strength of curriculum, GPA, class rank, and strength of high school). As a test-optional institution, TCNJ will not consider standardized test scores as part of our merit scholarship review process.
Due to the strength of our applicant pool, the scholarship process is highly competitive; historically, less than half of admitted students have received a scholarship. The average merit award is roughly $2,000 per year.
Additionally, TCNJ is excited to announce that we have expanded our scholarship program starting with Fall 2022 applicants. In its inaugural year, the Presidential Scholarship will have a potential maximum value of $12,000 per year. This scholarship may be granted to New Jersey residents who fall in the top ten percent of their graduating class and demonstrate a significant level of interest in The College based on their responses to TCNJ’s “Quest to Get to Know You Better” survey, which is made available to students after an application has been submitted.
Scholarships are distributed at the time of acceptance by TCNJ and are renewable for 8 consecutive semesters, provided the student maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0. These scholarships are only available to citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Questions about scholarships can be directed to Admissions at 609.771.2132.
