First-year in-state applicants to TCNJ are automatically considered for merit scholarships upon submission of their application. These awards are based on a student’s overall high school academic record (including the strength of curriculum, GPA, class rank, and strength of high school).
Due to the strength of our applicant pool, the scholarship process is highly competitive; historically, less than half of admitted students have received a scholarship. The average merit award is roughly $2,000 per year.
As a test-optional institution, TCNJ will not consider standardized test scores as part of our merit scholarship review process. However, starting with Fall 2024 applicants, TCNJ is excited to expand its scholarship program. Students awarded a merit scholarship who also submit an official test score of 1350+ (SAT) or 30+ (ACT) will receive an additional academic scholarship of $1,350, which will be added to their merit award.
Scholarships are distributed at the time of acceptance by TCNJ and are renewable for up to 8 consecutive semesters, as an undergraduate student, provided the student maintains full-time enrollment and a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5. These scholarships are only available to citizens or permanent residents of the United States. Questions about scholarships can be directed to Admissions at 609.771.2132.
