How do I apply to TCNJ as an undergraduate transfer student?
TCNJ uses The Common Application, which is available at https://www.commonapp.org/. In addition to the Transfer Common App, applicants must submit the TCNJ Member Form, which requires the student to choose a major.

Music applicants must complete their audition by November 15th for Spring Admission and March 15th for Fall Admission. Visual Arts (Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Photo/Video) applications must submit their portfolio for department review by November 1st for Spring Admission and March 1st for Fall Admission.
What are the application requirements?
- Official High School Transcript: All applicants are required to submit their official high
school transcripts. For the transcript to be considered official, it must be sent directly from the high school to TCNJ. The only exemption is for students who have a bachelor’s
degree. - All Official College Transcripts: Transcripts from all colleges previously attended/currently attending are required. For the transcript to be considered official, it must be sent directly from the college to TCNJ.
- If you are applying for Spring Admission while in your first semester of college, you are not required to send in a college transcript, but you will need to fill out the Mid-Term Report. However, if admitted to TCNJ, the student must send a final transcript so the Admissions Office can review the student’s college performance and receive transfer credit for transferable courses.
- TCNJ does not require SAT/ACT Test scores for transfer applicants.
- Transfer College Report: The Transfer College Report will be required for all enrolled transfer students. The form can be downloaded as a PDF from Common App.

When will I be notified of my decision?
Applicants who have submitted the application and all required documentation by the deadline will receive a decision letter in their student portal by December 15th (Spring Admission) or April 1st (Fall Admission).
How many credits can I transfer to TCNJ?
If a student has attended a two-year institution, TCNJ accepts a maximum of 62 credits. If a student has attended a four-year institution, TCNJ accepts a maximum of 90 credits. If you have attended two-year and four-year institutions, TCNJ will accept a maximum of 90 credits combined.
How can I see which credits will transfer to TCNJ?
The general rule of thumb as to which courses will typically transfer to TCNJ are 100- and 200- level courses where a grade C or better was earned. Students transferring from a New Jersey two-year college may use the website https://www.njtransfer.org/ to review transferable courses. Credit evaluations are only completed for admitted applicants.
What is the required minimum grade point average for a transfer student?
The minimum GPA to apply as a transfer student is 2.5. The average GPA of a student who is admitted is 3.0 or higher. Students seeking admission to some of the more competitive programs may need higher GPAs.
How many credits do I need to graduate from TCNJ?
The number of credits depends on the program. Most programs require 120 credits/30 course units.
Does TCNJ accept NJ STARS students?
TCNJ does accept NJ STARS I students. However, NJ STARS I students are not guaranteed admission into TCNJ. You must apply and be accepted based on TCNJ’s transfer admissions criteria. The NJ STARS II award will only go into effect if all NJ STARS I requirements have been satisfied, including verification of your Associate’s Degree.
Are transfer students guaranteed housing?
Transfer students are not guaranteed housing. However, housing is available both on-campus and off-campus. Accepted transfer students may contact the Office of Residential Education and Housing, which will submit their housing requests after they are admitted and submit a deposit.
